Calendula officinalis
Ka-len'dew-la
Ka-len'dew-la
A bright, cheerful easy to grow annual or perennial herb that likes full sun.
I wanted to post a picture tutorial for this project, but due to the fact that school is starting I didn't get it finished. Please let me know if you have any problems understanding these instructions. Thanks...................
This recipe makes 6 tortillas.
Mix 1 cup of Masa (instant corn masa mix) with 3/4 cup of water.
Mix thoroughly until a firm ball.
If it feels to dry, add water as necessary.
Divide into 6 balls.
Give children 2 pieces of wax paper and one ball.
Have them put the ball on one piece of wax paper and place the other piece of wax paper on top.
Give them a rolling pin and have them roll it until the tortilla is almost 5 inches in diameter.
Have them peel off the top wax paper. Give them a teaspoon of pesticide free calendula flower petals to sprinkle on their tortilla.
Have them cover the tortilla with the wax paper again and roll lightly.
Adult heat a skillet very hot to around 440 degrees.
Adult take off wax paper on tortilla and turn over into ungreased skillet for 15 to 30 seconds, turn over for 20 to 30 seconds, then turn again for 15 to 30 seconds until cooked.
Adult put on a plate to cool.
If desired, let children butter their freshly made tortilla.
What a tasty healthy snack!!!
PLEASE TELL CHILDREN NOT TO PICK FLOWERS OR EAT THEM UNLESS THEY ASK AN ADULT........SOME ARE VERY POISONOUS.
